Ken was born on July 13, 1969, in Detroit, but afterward, his family moved to North Carolina. During his school years, he was attending violin lessons and played in the school orchestra. As his parents were strict towards studying, he had excellent results in all subjects.
After finishing school, Ken pursued a medicine degree at UNC School of Medicine, but he never thought to give up on the taste of acting and enrolled at Duke University, where he followed for a drama major.
For several years Ken was working dual jobs. He didn’t give up on medicine and was working in Woodland Hills, but at the same time his “calling” for a stage led him to take part-times at the comedy clubs and perform his stand-up shows. His successful performances brought the first results – he was invited to TV shows like The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
In 2006, Ken dropped off medical practice as his acting opportunities waiting for him. In 2017 he made a debut in his first film Knocked Up, and later he starred in Role Models, Sell Hard, and many others.
Career stats / records
Ken, who strode to his acting career with wide and confident steps, had everything but a hard-working life. Taking two jobs in a row was a brave decision, where the life of a comedian took over him. Still, he keeps his medical license open as he cherishes his long-time efforts.
His career is full of prominent roles, but the one that first comes to mind is the role of Mr. Chow in The Hangover (all three parts – no doubt, he affected it with his unique acting style). This movie brought him two awards in nominations for Best Villain (MTV Award) and Best WTF Moment (MTV Movie Award).
Aside from acting, he was invited to host concerts and feature in worldwide campaigns. In 2011 he hosted Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and was featured in the Hands Only CPR campaign.
Ken, as far as he raised the popularity of Asian-American stars, was awarded Visionary Award for his contribution to filmography.
His Instagram account is followed by more than 1 million fans with 4 973 posts.
